Since graduation, it was established that a direct move to London would be unrealistic due to insufficient funding. However, I have been in full time employment since August and my prospects for moving are beginning to look feasible! I aim to make the move before the end of March 2014, and hope to transfer within my existing job, ensuring stability whist seeking costume work experience during free time.
During my free time (which has been limited) since working at my current job, I have undertaken two small personal projects, in order to keep my hand in at clothing construction. The first was a dress I made for myself, to be worn during the festive period, the process had many delays due to the busy season, as well as working unsociable hours, but turned out successful nonetheless.
The second project which I am currently working on (during my time off), is the construction of a 1930’s slip. Using Salen. J. (2011) Vintage lingerie: historical patterns and techniques. Batsford Ltd as reference. I am following the historical references and aiming for accuracy, focussing on high quality regarding detailing. The slip itself is to be made from silk crepe de chine and features drawn thread embroidery and hand faggot stitching.
